University Rennes 1, an outstanding higher-education and research potential in ICT
At the heart of University Rennes 1, the IRISA (www.irisa.fr/english) is the largest research Lab in ICT in the West of France. It gathers teams from University of Rennes 1, the Institut Mines-Telecom (Telecom Bretagne), the CNRS (‘Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique’), the INSA (‘Institut National des Sciences Appliquees’) and the ‘Ecole Normale Superieure’. The IRISA also counts numerous common teams with INRIA, another key EIT Digital partner.
IRISA conducts research in computer science, applied mathematics and signal and image processing. Its work focuses on major cross-disciplinary fields, such as the Internet of the future, cloud computing, images & interaction, security and computational sciences (combining digital technology with other disciplines such as biology, mechanics and medicine). The unit’s research activities are also geared towards important fields of application such as multimedia, transport, healthcare and the environment.

University Rennes 1 campus is ideally located in the Rennes Atalante Science Park in ICT (www.rennes-atalante.fr/en), close to major industrial corporations (Orange, Alcatel, Technicolor, Thales,..), to more than 300 SMEs, business services, incubators, etc.

Rennes and University Rennes 1, a strong involvement in EIT Digital
A number of the French EIT Digital partners have a presence in Rennes: Alcatel-Lucent, France Telecom/Orange, Thales, INRIA, Institut Mines-Telecom (Telecom Bretagne). University Rennes 1 hosts the EIT Digital Co-location Center (CLC) in Rennes, a welcoming venue dedicated to activities on Education, Research, Innovation and Business in ICT. For the students, researchers and entrepreneurs in ICT, the CLC offers office space, incubation services, courses and animations in Innovation and entrepreneurship.
University Rennes 1 is also involved in the 2 major EIT Digital education programs:

- the EIT Digital Doctoral School in ICT Innovation.
University Rennes 1 also partners with INRIA and Institut Mines-Telecom (Telecom Bretagne) to operate the EIT Digital Doctoral Training Center (DTC) on ‘Future Media, ubiquitous delivery and interaction’ (url DTC Rennes).
